History

After Episcopacy was disestablished at the Revolution Resettlement in 1690, a few families on the Isle of Lewis  remained faithful to the Church. They petitioned the Bishop to send priests to minister to them and a succession of visiting clergy served the congregation intermittently until well into the 19th century. St. Peter's church was built in 1838 and consecrated in 1898.

The organ, which was a gift from Lady Matheson in 1887, was repaired and restored in 1985. St. Peter's Church has been gifted with many unusual and important historical items, including David Livingstone's Prayer Book and a stone baptismal bowl of unknown age from the Flannan Isles.

We are open every day for prayer and quiet meditation. We hope you find our church to be a place of peace, prayer, and sanctuary.
